About Magen David Adom
Magen David Adom is Israel’s national rescue organization and operates the national blood services. Magen David Adom operates under the Magen David Adom Law, and for over 96 years, its mission has been to save lives.
Who We Are
Magen David Adom operates a large fleet of 1,500 ambulances, over 420 mobile intensive care units, and various rescue vehicles across the country to provide urgent medical care and hospital evacuation, engages in instruction and training, and conducts humanitarian activities in Israel and around the world.
Over the years, the organization has developed capabilities designed to bring medical care to the sick and injured as quickly as possible, including the Immediate Response Unit, operating since 2000, and the Motorcycle Unit, operating since 2004, alongside the use of advanced technology and sophisticated medical equipment.
Our History
The story of Magen David Adom is interwoven with the story of the State of Israel. The organization was founded in 1930, long before the establishment of the state, and even then provided medical and humanitarian aid to the Yishuv, to Jewish soldiers fighting the Nazis, and to immigrants and Holocaust survivors worldwide. From then until today, it has accompanied the State of Israel through routine, emergency, and crisis.
Establishment of the Organization
The Magen David Adom Association was founded in Tel Aviv as a small community first aid organization, based entirely on initial volunteers.
The Magen David Adom Law
The Israeli Knesset approves the law officially defining Magen David Adom as the national rescue and medical body of the State of Israel.
International Recognition
Magen David Adom is accepted as a full and official member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, with recognition of its unique emblem.
Iron Swords and Saving Lives
In the greatest test of October 7, Magen David Adom forces acted with supreme heroism under fire in southern Israel to save thousands of wounded.
Our Vision and Values
The human capital of Magen David Adom also reflects the face of Israeli society as a whole. Approximately 90% of the organization’s personnel are volunteers, coming from all walks of Israeli society and working alongside the organization’s employees to treat those in need of urgent medical assistance and save lives.
At the heart of Magen David Adom’s work are excellence, professionalism, and humanity. Thanks to a wide national deployment of stations and dispatch points, first responders, and volunteers, Magen David Adom is present throughout the country, from Dan to Eilat, to provide a rapid medical response wherever it is needed.
