Magen David Adom is also responsible for supplying whole blood to the IDF, enabling the administration of blood to critically wounded individuals in the field, even before they reach the hospital.
As early as 2018, whole blood was introduced for use in Unit 669. Subsequently, its use was expanded to military helicopters, military intensive care units, Magen David Adom helicopters, and special units.
These are special units of type O blood adapted for administration in the field.
Prof. Shinar recounted that during those days, she saw television footage of a casualty evacuation by 669. Over the radio, the medical personnel in the field were heard reporting to the helicopter crew: “I have a critically wounded, unconscious patient who has received blood.”
